Hello (soon to be) fellow bikers

Greetings to you wonderful hearty biking folk. I tip my hat to you.
I just found out my bike (2017 Cannondale Adventure 1) has arrived at the shop for assembly. It started when I woke up and realized I'm really getting old (60). I haven't ridden in many years but it dawned on me that it might be good for me to get into bicycling. I'm from the Chicago area (2 towns north along the lake). I researched the bike (ad nauseum) and finally ordered it in time for the cold weather:/
It doesn't matter. Better late then never.
Wish me luck.
Take good care of yourselves and, enjoy yourselves riding this fall.

Glad you're here. You'll enjoy the new bike and riding. I lived in Chicago for two years and the area was great. The only problem is winds and winter cold but lots of people ride right through that

Welcome to Bike Forums young man (or lady). Stop by the 50+ forum and say hello to the other old timers. I hang out there. I'm 71 and there are several others older than me.
The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. - Psalm 103:8

I am a cyclist. I am not the fastest or the fittest. But I will get to where I'm going with a smile on my face.

Never too late to start again. So glad that you are going to get back into it. I remember the excitement when my bike arrived.. I was so picky about putting it all together.. I wanted everything just right. Love that feeling...

Enjoy your stay here but mostly, enjoy your first ride! Be sure to post about it!

Good for you! I've had my 2017 Adventure 3 for two weeks and love it! Just talked to my local bike store owner (Doug of Midwest Cyclery in Wheaton, IL). Had some questions for him and his answers may save you some time:

Q: Do I need any tools to keep it running? A: No, with the exception of an allen wrench to adjust the handlebars.

Q: Is suspension fork adjustable. A: No.

Q: Do I need to lube the fork? A: No. Bring it in once a year and we clean and spray it.

Q: The front suspension on my Adventure 3 model is a Zoom Aria, not a SunTour as specified on the Cannondale Website. What's that all about? A: The Zoom replaces the SunTour on the 2017 Adventure 3.

Q: Some riders who post on BikeForums.net have little regard for Zoom. Will I have a problem with it. A: It should be fine for street and bike path riding. The bike is not made for heavy off road riding. The suspension has a pretty short travel so you don't want to be jumping stumps with it.
