Welcome to Bike Forums. I vote that you get a Cannondale. Let us know what bike you get.

Hi and Welcome

also in PDX. Hope you consider C+V (classic and Vintage), as you may already know PDX has has rich history of framebuilding that continues with some of the best. Keep in mind many of the models from the companies you list and many other are made by the same factories so it may come down to looks and what name you want on it so don't pass up checking at Performance bikes as they have some of the best prices you will find and I get very good service at the Mall 205 store. I would encourage you to also check out River city and Velocult to check out the bikes hanging from the ceiling for some great C+V

Thank you.

Yes "merziac", matter of fact first bike shop I visited was Performance at Mall 205.
I am doing a lot of research and reading online and got one book
"The Ultimate Bicycle Owners Manual" his message to me is "get a bike
you are comfortable with and ride". He doesn't preach brands.
Thank you all for the welcoming and suggestions.
I will let you know which brand I go with.

Welcome aboard, best of luck with your search for the first bicycle, one thing I can pretty well guarantee you, it won't be your last one. Great to have you join in here, as said above, keep of posted on your choice, in the Forum(s) of your choice.
