Hello from South Dakota! (Great 48 Rider)

Hello All!

My name is Brett and I'm currently living in Sioux Falls South Dakota, where you don't see many people riding around this time of year (currently 20 F which is pretty warm for us in Dec!). I was part of a group of 5 guys to bicycle through all 48 lower states (approx 10k total miles) in 2014 and since then have enjoyed causal riding.(The Great 48 The Great 48 (The link is for reference purposes only, we are not taking donations any longer).

Lately I have started making bike frames out of bamboo and steel with the first one being pretty rough but rideable.
Bike 1

If the pictures don't load you can see the first one here

And the second being much lighter and hopefully stronger but still under construction
Bike 2

and the second one here

The more I've learned about building bike and riding the more I've realized I have to learn. Advice is very welcome, I'm here to learn, become a better bike builder and input where I can!

Hi Brett, that's an amazing ride you did two years ago. Bamboo is intriguing. Welcome to Bike Forums!

Looks great! Can you also construct a set of bamboo rollers since it might be a little bit chilly outside to ride.

Welcome mate. Bamboo is strong stuff alright, in Asia they make construction scaffold out of it and go up multiple stories.

I really should! The hardest thing is having a bike and not being able to ride it like you want due to nasty weather. Any design ideas?
