Portuguese dude living below sea level (Netherlands)

Hi everyone,

My name is Ruben Nascimento and I am a Portuguese guy that lives and work in the Netherlands.

I like to do touring cycling and I recently started to get into do bigger trips only me and the bike.

I also commute all days to work and I am a passionate with old steel frames. This means that I like to get my hands dirty and make the old new again...

Thanks for reading, and see you soon in the road (I hope!).

How is cycling in the Netherlands? Any safety concerns there?

Hi RideSafer,

To be honest I believe it is pretty safe to ride in the Netherlands.

In here were I live, Amsterdam, priority is given most of the time to bikes. And if I am not mistaken it is in the law that in junctions bikes have priorities over cars and trams. However, if you cycle around, you should obey and traffic lights and always look to both sides when crossing. Accidents unfortunately to happen!

You should check this url, it might be interesting to you: bicycledutch.wordpress.com/2014/02/23/junction-design-in-the-netherlands/

Hope this answer your question
