Hello From Portland

Hi all,
I've been biking since I was a kid and never really stopped. My favorite places to ride are MTB single track trails and rail-trails. I also enjoy collecting bicycles and memorabilia, particularly French road bikes of the '70s and Schwinns of any vintage.

Welcome! We currently live in downtown Portland. Off of Yamhill in the Goose Hollow Neighborhood. I don't mountain bike though. You'll find me riding the Springwater Corridor out to Boring, the Trolley Trail to Oregon City or the West Hills over to the 26 Trail into Beaverton.

Agreed. Those French road bikes of the '70s are nice bike. Hey, keep an eye open for a '82 Shogun 2001 Touring Bike, blue, for me. Thanks

Nice. I recently moved out to Gresham, not far from the Gresham Fairview trail. I used to live in Milwaukie where I biked the Springwater into downtown on the weekends. I haven't done much mountain biking since my college days in Kansas, but I'm looking forward to checking out the new Gateway Green park and Powell Butte.

Not familiar with that brand but I'll keep an eye out. I have a Peugeot and a Gitane.

Welcome aboard, there are quite a few of us here and I myself have been here most of my life. Am very into our rich cycling history, especially framebuilders that laid the groundwork for much of what we have today. That being the most and some of the very best anywhere in the world, just like when Merz, Newlands and DiNucci started it back in the day.

I'm not familiar with any of those brands, but I do spend a lot of time admiring the work of our local framebuilders, with the hope I'll be able to afford one someday.

They are Titans from the 70's and Mark DiNucci is building now, Andy Newlands may still be at Strawberry in Goose Hollow. Jim Merz is still active in the industry doing special projects for Specialized as he and DiNucci worked for them. I would encourage you to dig into these guys as they are largely responsible for PDX being the framebuilding mecca that it is today.

Andy is still there! Strawberry is our LBS. We live on Yamhill in Goose Hollow behind the Volvo building.

Hi BB, I knew he is still there, just not sure if you can get him to build a frame. Lucky you to have him as an LBS, that is awesome, never would have imagined such a thing. Does he take care of everything you need him too?

Ohh sorry, thought you weren't sure! Yeah, they do a great job. We were going to Strawberry even when Ty and I lived in Beaverton.

No worries, do you have any of his and will he still build?

I'm not sure if he still builds but no, we don't have any of his bicycles. I have a Cannondale and Ty has a Fuji. We go for the service and to support local when we can. Getting better at doing our own bike maintenance though so we go less now.

Very cool, I had no idea that he does a regular bike shop, will have to check it out. I would encourage you to find out if he will build you a frame and while it would be a serious investment I don't think you would ever regret it.
