Hello from Madison, WI

First time poster, long time lurker,

I've always owned a bike, from the heavy BMX dirt bike when I was a kid, to the silver huffy 10 speed that got stolen, to the 1999 Gary Fisher Kaitai for mountain biking single track with my friends in college, to my latest purchase, a 2106 Detroit Bicycles Type-A New Belgium edition cruiser for around the city because I wanted a more comfortable ride and I really liked the classic style & the beer theme.

I'm looking for some advice to modify the cruiser without spending a fortune (but not buying the cheapest stuff available either). First, I need to find a more comfortable saddle. Ideally, it would be black that has that classic look like the original saddle. The current saddle gave me a three day tailbone bruise after my third one hour ride in the last week, so something has to change. The second adjustment I'd like to make is raise the handle bars a few inches, as I'd like to be sitting a little more in the back. I think this will require adding a post because my friend and I weren't' able to pull the existing post up or out. I'm not exactly sure what that part is called, or what to ask for or order.

The handle bar post on the 18th pdf page is about 1/10 that length:
(I can't post links until I get to 10 posts, but the manual is on detroit bikes dot com website type A owners manual)

Here's a couple stock photos of my bikes, which is pretty much what they look like.

Thanks for the feedback and welcoming me to the forum.

Hi SYLTE,

Welcome to bike forums! I'd bet you could find some good advice in the General Cycling Discussion sub forums, and potentially Bicycle Mechanics if you have anything real technical to ask.

Happy Trails!
