Greetings from North Carolina
After a 25 year layoff for marriage, kids and career, I'm back on a bike. Unfortunately the youthful physique that allowed me to ride 15-20 miles every night after work then has fallen victim to age, hypothyroidism and chronic migraines. After consulting the docs (yeah, plural, chronic health conditions are *fun*) who have declared two of the three are now under control, I' bought a Specialized Roll and made my first ride last night, 7.28 miles. On a greenway. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
But I rode with a friend who has been after me for years to ride with him, and it was a pleasant ride on a very attractive and well done greenway--it meanders along a river. I got to see a blue heron up close. I found out that my body remembered cadence and spinning, even if it's difficult without toe clips.
I also found out I really missed riding, even if I can only do it on a fitness bike on a greenway now. Being semi-retired, I'm going to have time for plenty of it. So if you live in North Carolina and you see an orange Roll being ridden by a foolishly grinning somewhat past middle-aged paunchy male bearing down on you...wave! Then duck, because I'm still a bit wobbly on the darn thing.

Welcome. You'll find the distance and speed comes naturally as you continue. Enjoy yourself and keep looking for those Blue Herons.
