Welcome to Bike Forums. I would suggest you rely on the advice of your doctor regarding your broken foot. Getting advice from strangers on the Internet can be very risky.

He or she only asked for a timeline. It will vary, depending upon the nature of the break, whether it is weight-bearing, whether you have screws holding the bone fragments together, age, etc.
In general, it takes six weeks for bone to heal, and 12 weeks for soft tissue. So that is probably a lower bound.
It took me about 4 months after breaking my ankle to be able to ride. I started off with a mountain bike on a fluid trainer in my house; I had to climb up on it with crutches.
In Europe, they tend to be much more aggressive about recovery than in the US. In my case, they would have skipped the cast after surgery and would have had me start physical therapy almost immediately. This approach has the advantage that you don't lose as much range of motion from having the muscles immobilized in a cast.

thanks everyone. i'll follow what doctors say, but this ankle has always been unstable and previous treatments never gave the hoped results.
my joint suffered alot the use of ankle braces and got too weak, for me the bike proved useful as exercise. i'm sure it will be even weaker after this definitive fracture.
i fell while walking on rocks, i don't know how, maybe the ankle simply gave out... luckly i wasn't alone and had bandages.
at the moment they splinted my leg, i'm waiting for the x-ray but i can feel something is broken and it hurts alot.
since recovery time depends on the treatment i hope to avoid a long immobilization.

Welcome broken foot.
Nothing like strengthening your foot and ankle to help. Try squats and lots of lunges.
