Newbie with a Cannondale Quick 5
 

Hello ;) - I’m from Virginia, just bought a Cannondale WSD Quick 5 flat bar road bike. I’ve taken it out a few times on 10 mile rides - once at the Virginia Capital Trail, and once at The Great Dismal Swamp Canal Trail. I am the “mom” in the household that has 2 cyclists who race regularly and compete in Century rides. Although I do not have plans to ever race or ride that far of a distance, I did want something faster than my “mom bike” an Electra Townie 7D and also a bike that I could do a few 20-30 mile charity rides. I wanted a Felt VR60W but Hubble felt a flat bar road bike would suit me better to gain some speed and for all around fitness and kept telling me for the $300 difference the Felt had crappy components compared to the Cannondale I purchased. The woman in me loved the pretty color and thought it looked cool with the drop style handlebars, but he kept saying it wasn’t practical for me because I also love photography, so going off the pavement for photos is very typical of me and he knew most “road bikes” wouldn’t allow for this. So here I am with my stealth looking Flat bar road bike - which is SO much faster than my Cruiser - I was riding the Townie distances of up to 15 miles with avg speed 10-11mph pedaling hard and just the first few rides out on the Quick I easily averaged 15-17mph at a relatively easy pace. Anyone else with a Cannondale Quick? What’s your 2 cents on my decision? I’m currently unable to upload photos...wil get that fixed with the administrator...

Newbie as well, after returning to biking. Quick 5 was my choice as well, I loved my Cannondales in the past and loved this one on comparison test rides, I was lucky, I got to test my top 3 choices side by side and had no doubts. Agree with your choice and happy with mine. Also,welcome

What’s the distances your riding? That’s the only thing I’m questioning- did I maybe wanna go to drops on a Felt VR (variable road) bike - I’m doing rides of at least 10-15 miles currently and increasing distance as I go. I have til Monday to exchange for the other bike if I really wanted to... the quick has more gears and better components- the felt has a prettier frame and the drops....

I'm much more partial to drop bar bikes, myself. If you keep increasing time and distance, you'll be wanting one anyway. May as get to it and go with your heart.

Your riding style and needs compared to mine will be like comparing apples to oranges. I'm 61 now, and after a 10 year layoff from bikes, I was no longer interested in drop bars or racing mountain bikes any longer. I don't have speed, distance goals , I just ride when I can and enjoy myself. Thats why I chose a fitness bike, perfect for my needs. I ride 10-25 miles here at home, but I really wanted the bike for my frequent trips to Orange Beach, AL. It's my go to transportation down there(including all grocery runs) when not ferrying the Hobie to fishing spots and I usually ride 20 to 30 miles. Sounds like you might be better off with drop bars. I like FELT also, but no where to look at one when I bought.

For peace of mind..I went back to the bike shop and rode the felt again after I've ridden my Quick and put 55 Miles on it. The felt is the lowest end model and still would have cost me $100 more than the quick 5. I'm glad I did this because it really made me appreciate the quality components I have on the quick. They are only 2 lbs different in weight, but the biggest difference between the two is 16 spd Claris components on the Felt made all kinds of grinding noises vs my smooth 27 spds on the cannondale. I came home and rode the quick with a smile on my face knowing that for $629 I bought an outstanding, quality bike. When I get to the point that I really need drop bars I will want that bike to have quality components as well but for now this bike will suit me well. 😊
