Hi from KC

Hi all. Here is everything I know about bikes: I know how to ride a bike. So I've been clicking around here and thought this would be the place to ask a bazillion questions, but that would be rude without introducing myself first. I'm Natalie. I just moved back to the Kansas City suburbs after living in Fabulous Las Vegas for 7 years. I spent quite a lot of my spare time hiking/running/climbing in the mountains west of Vegas (Red Rock National Conservation Area) but there's not much of that to do around here so I am trying to diversify! I just snagged myself a "starter bike" at an estate sale for 20 bux to see if I could still ride one. (I can.) It's a Sears Roebuck ten speed touring bike, seems 1970-something based on a little clicking around I have done. It's in pretty good shape considering it's almost as old as I am! My husband has a 20 year old-ish racing bike that was cutting edge "back in the day" that he just put back into action, but he had to buy new tires and tubes. My 45-ish year old only needed some derailleur action and a bit of air, which makes me think it either never got used or got a lot of love from someone. I plan to ride about on the paved bike trails that there seem to be miles of around here, as well as use it as a light commuter bike, small grocery trips, etc. If I like doing all that, maybe I will upgrade the bike or upgrade my experience by trying mountain biking or road touring/racing.
Now, on to the forums for some question-asking!

Welcome Natalie... The KC is getting more bike friendly ever year. Not as much as I'd like though! If your looking for cheaper alternative on bikes I'd recommend Revolve KC. Not new bikes but would get you along for a while.

Hi Natalie, welcome to Bike Forums!

Getting an old bike is always kind of special. It brings you back to the day... I wonder if that's why your husband decided to dust his off. Glad that you decided to join here and maybe your husband will too. I'm sure the folks in the vintage and classic forum would LOVE to see both bikes, I know I would!

Thanks for the warm welcome! I've been fumbling around here for a couple days and finally figured out how to post photos. Here are some pics of my new old bike.
