Recove(rd) or(ring) ?

I have not rode in 5 years. 16 months post a 17' fall that shattered both hips, pelvis, and a complete shoulder replacement 5 months ago and the other one scheduled. 67 years old and planning Gap and C&O ride early this summer. I am having my bike serviced this next week to see if I can still ride and begin to train.
Any suggestions for tire type for these trails. I have a Trek hybrid 26" (41cm) Not a high end bike but not willing to upgrade at this time.
Thanks
