Hello from Cincinnati!

Hey all,

New member from the Cincinnati, OH area. This looked like an active forum, so thought I would sign up! I'll have many questions!

In my 'youth' I was an avid cyclist - was in my high school bike club even! Fast Forward like 30-something years; I'm 46 now.. and after a career in IT, I started needing to put some serious attention to my health. I was a long-term smoker and video gamer.... so yeah, that's not healthy at all!

About two years or so ago, I quit smoking and the wife and I bought two Wal-Mart special Kent DelRio Cruiser bikes, with the intent to ride them on the beach during a trip we took to the coast. So I had one of those cheap bike car racks someone gave me.. and no.. I wasn't going to see if it would make it on the 13 hour drive. So the bikes sat in the basement for a good two years. I started smoking again and being ignorant of my health.

Some other 'health issues' arose recently and I have again quit smoking - I'm REALLY done with it this time. I was so annoyed and felt so bad when I picked up the habit again, I am 100% resolute on me being a non-smoker now. Starting to get steady exercise and such as well. I feel SO much better in general and am just replacing smoking with exercise, I'm maintaining a good diet and looking to avoid any weight gain. I've had no real serious urges to replace smoking with eating and feel good about that.

So maybe 6 months ago I bought a four-bike rack (decent quality type one) from a co-worker and just recently (finally) got around to ordering a hitch-receiver and installing it on one of our vehicles... the wife had been pestering me to do it and I was dragging my feet. Honestly; I forgot how much I LOVED to ride. Have taken the bikes out just a couple of times and I'm already re-addicted to riding!

Just wanted to introduce myself! I'll be lurking around and learning this or that.. and the DelRio is a good bike - for a Wal-Mart cheapy, but by next year - I'm sure I'll want a better one. (Well, already do - but I need to do some research first!!)

Welcome! I got back into adult cycling the same way. I traded one addiction for another and have never looked back.

Hello and welcome!

Don't worry about being on a "cheapie" for now. Once you get really into it you will know what you want in a bike. This is a great re start! And congrats and making your self better!~

Welcome to the forum. You might want to check out the bike event in Troy, Ohio on August 25th since you’re not far away.
