Just joined after being away from cycling for many years. Excited to be riding a new Trek SL5 Domane and have been training for a century ride this Fall. The equipment now compared to the old days really rocks. My main goal is to stay safe and make dang sure my bike fits and I don't have to ride through the pain the way we used to when all we had were Brooks saddles and leather helmets or "skid lids".
Back in the day I raced and rode many centuries and double centuries and the Seattle to Portland. Rode with the Portland Wheelman for a time.
Anyway glad to be back.

Welcome.
There are quite a few active Portland area members, especially with respect to Classic, Vintage, and Steel fabrication.
Check out this thread.

It is really just a vintage and 650b-fest at the Atelier Gugie. Perfect for an experienced rider.
did I see Portland? Oregon is a BIG place.

And yes, I love the Domane, man 35 years back the equipment was rough and painful. This machine fits me so nicely and with the right components (especially the right saddle) I just can't believe what a difference it makes. I come from the days of Mercian Reynolds chrome moly frames and Bianci road bikes that were pain machines. When I was young I could ride thru the pain but no more. I remember desperately oiling up a Brooks saddle and literally beating the crap out of it with a baseball bat to get it "broken in" so I could ride a century the next month.

I'm in the Garden Home area betwixt Portland and Beaverton. Put the 11th on your calendar, should be an all day event, attend what you can and meet up with a bunch of great people!
