Hello
I'm 57. Looking down the barrel at retirement. I work in a sawmill. Married, grown daughter, five cats & two dogs. I play guitar, tennis, ball hockey, I workout. I'm learning to be a fitness coach and I am developing a fitness website. I started riding again about 3 years ago. I have always had a bike but the one I had before that was just not fixable. I bought an old Kawahara MTB from a local used store. It was so far superior to the bike I had I never looked back. It is still my primary rider, although I have collected 8 more bikes since then. I am about at capacity for storage so I will try harder to sell a few next spring.
I love working on bikes. Almost as much as riding. There are not very many "dumpster" bikes in this area and they are not Campanello's or Banachi's. Very average, not fancy bikes. I do what I can. The other week I stopped by my old used bike dealer. He had just brought in a shipment of sad old bikes. I purchased 3. A Raleigh, a Precision, and an incredibly light no name that I suspect is a custom. All need work of course, but that is the way I like them.
I live in a valley that is perfectly flat. I tell people I can coast both ways almost anywhere I want to go. There is a bit of a hill going up to Tim Horton's/McDonalds but I can manage three gears from the top. I rode all last winter, weather permitting of course. I can tolerate -16C/3.2F if it is sunny and no wind. Not a lot of days like that last year but it is a day by day thing in the winter. I much prefer hot weather, +35C/95F . There are some tall hills around me I have not yet tackled. The flat lands appealed to me this year. I'm thinking of getting a GoPro. I thought it would make good youtube video's.

Timmerman,
I wish I had you mechanical knowhow. I'm too dependent on bike mechanics. Good luck in retirement. I'm there in another six weeks.

I also like working on bikes, I think if I bought a new bike I'd miss doing all the fun repairs that need doing on a beat up bike.
