Hello from New Brunswick!
Hey folks! I'm 24, and used to ride a lot as a kid. My parents always bought me mountain bikes from big box stores because my friends and I were super rough on them and liked to do stupid tricks, but it also let us get around. Eventually, I got a car and never looked back until recently.
I decided Cycling would be an adventure, and an opportunity to work on my cardio instead of boringly sweating it out at the gym. My current financial situation only permitted me to spring for a Canadian Tire / Big Box Store Hybrid bike, so I'm making due with it until next year. Hoping to find people on here to help get me hyped and feel like part of a community so I don't feel alone on this new adventure into the sport of cycling.
I had to build my bike on my own as the store did not build it before selling it to me, so I got to spend a few days tuning and assembling it and it was satisfying - I think I enjoy working on the mechanics of a bike, so already I've learned something new.
Anyhow, I'm glad to meet you folks, and look forward to learning lots and seeing the community first-hand!

You will definitely get conditioned by all kinds of cycling. I’m a road biker because I love it & this is what I have time to specialize in. Gravel bikes that do it all seem to be the newest thing. I look forward to riding more dirt and gravel roads.
How are the roads where you live?

Nothing wrong with big box store bikes. I think they have their place getting people into the sport who otherwise wouldn't when they see some of the price tags at the local bike shop
