From Twin Lake Michigan New today

Hello from Michigan: Rick -

Where do I start?

Just bought a Trek Dual Sport 2 for Myself and Wife a Verve 2 .

Would like to find out if items below are needed and which ones are worth their costs

1:Work stands ,
2:Chain Scrubbers are Worth it ,
3:What oils to use etc.
4evice that keep track of Miles etc. That can be synchronized to Phone or PC

I am mechanical so planning to at least do the Minor things Myself. Live way out in the Country: Bike Shop was Hour Trip > Plus they weren't very Friendly considering what I spent on 2 Bikes :

Not looking to go Hog wild crazy. I realize there are gimmic Products in every Sport. Joined forum hoping to avoid them :

Thanks

Welcome to Bike Forums Rick. I love the West Michigan area. My aunt used to live at the corner of Ryerson and Holton Duck Lake.

1. I like my Park Tools stand and my Feedback stand. Both are over 10 years old now.
2. Not to me.
3. I use Phil's Grease and Finish Line chain lube. You'll find lots of discussion/arguments on this topic. Tread careful.
4. I use a Garmin 520. I connect it with the Strava app.

Questions that are much more mechanical in nature than this should be posted in our Bike Mechanics forum.

That's really close to where I live. Maybe 2 miles away : Which Park tool stand do you have ? Is it really required to get the professional one? I was looking at PCS-10 vs the Prs-25 : Obviously I can see teh quality differences : Just wondering if I need the top one for things like chain maintenance ? I see the Mechanic section thanks

Welcome. I agree with everything Bill said. I’ve tried several chain scrubbers and none are worth it IMO.

Mine is the Park PCS-1. I believe the PCS-10 is its decedent. I've done everything from routine maintenance, tire replacement, and full overhauls with it and it has been just fine.

Okay I was one to have a chain scrubber. It's fine for me. But I end up going over it again anyway LOL

I need an on board computer strictly for Insurance reasons : Something I can track miles and speed that I can upload data to keep My insurance Co=pays reasonable. At this point I'm not ready for the $300-500.00 Garmin Types. Is there something basic I can start with that I can upload the data with ? : I am 63 . Just had Quad heart Bypass prior to heart attack. I've smoked for 40 years and just quit a few Months back. I worked out in a Gym for 30 years : SO I bought a Bike to enjoy and to get a Cardio : Suggestions on a Computer ?

As the Garmin 520 is my first bike computer, it is all that I am comfortable recommending. I suggest starting a new thread listing all your needs and budget in our Electronics forum. https://www.bikeforums.net/electroni...hting-gadgets/
