Welcome,
A buddy lives just down the road in Walden, so I know the area well. Besides the obvious Walkill Valley Rail Trail, you might find some of the carriage roads up at Minnewaska are OK for a gravel bike. There’s also a gravel trail down in Goshen called the Heritage Trail, goes 14 miles down to Harriman. www.gravelmap.com is a useful site. |
Ride the Heritage trail pretty often ... will look into the website .. thank you

Also the Duchess County Rail Trail and Walkway over the Hudson. The trail actually starts in East New Paltz at South St. and Rt. 299, then goes down to the Hudson, and another 22 miles to Hopewell Junction. It’s paved though.

Planning on riding the Dutchess trail this week

Welcome. I grew up near New Paltz. I get back home once a year or so. So far I've not ridden a bike in the area. I've been scoping out a route along the foot of the Shawangunk Mountain from New Paltz southerly to Pine Bush or so. Lots of secondary roads in that area.
|
Thank you ... im mainly staying on the rail trails for now but really want to get into longer rides on the road.
|
Welcome aboard!

Welcome, greetings from Michigan... I only need 2 more posts lol

Happy trails to you. Beautiful area but some drive very fast on roads that have little to zero shoulder. You might consider making yourself Very Visible to both oncoming traffic, as well as to the rear. Stay safe and I hope you enjoy your ride.
