Hello from SoCal

Long time lurker, finally signed up.

Been riding for fun and exercise most of my life. Kind of got away from riding about 10-12 years ago but got back into it right before turning 50 when I needed the exercise. Trained for and did a 50 for 50 birthday ride. Now over 60 years old and still riding, although work and life doesnt leave as much time for riding as Id like.

Im a road biker. Riding a Cannondale CAAD9 5, mostly a flat-lander, not a great climber.

plenty of flats to be had. best scenery in socal, imho, once you dispense with pch/the coast is in the mountains however. do some nibbling where and when you can.
i love climbing but i'm horrible at it. hasn't stopped me from doing nearly all the major climbs in socal. i love rolling pch in san diego county, orange county and ventura county
(la county not so much) but there's something primal about hitting glendora mountain road/glendora ridge road (gmr/grr), hwy 18 along the rim of the world in the san bernardino mtns
or sunrise highway in the laguna mountains...even if you're doing it slowly.

Also from So Cal, Also After Quite the Hiatus from Cycling

Hello All,

I'm ready to dust off a 2004 Klein roadbike I have sitting in the basement collecting dust. Looks like I need to invest in a new helmet, new shoes, and I think, (unfortunately) a new pedal system as it appears my old round Candy petals are now obsolete, and I think I gave the shoes away a while ago. I've just turned 50, still pretty fit more or less. It looks like a lot has changed in the bike world in the decade I've skipped out on. In addition to my Klein, I also have the cutest peugeot mixte that I had restored a year ago, (also sadly collecting dust) and now I'm the proud owner of my father's old charcoal cannondale mtn bike from the 80s that was probably only ever ridden a handful of times, literally. Anyway, I might sell the Cannondale, just not sure yet. I'm in the LA area and I hope to find a tribe to start road cycling with, not ultra serious. Pics when I get around to it. I'm in LA county area, South Pasadena.

Welcome back, Suki! South Pas is close to some cool cycling: urban explores and scenic stuff. there are a few people in the southern california regional discussion pretty
helpful with route/destination questions, group rides, etc.
