Hello from North Central Indiana!
Greetings! I've been riding for transportation and fun since about 2005. It started off in college as a means to get to class and such. I didn't even have my own bike, but I borrowed my brother's bike at the time. Well, it was the only exercise I had ever really gotten up to that point, and it felt great. I was losing weight, and felt more energetic. Before long, I was riding around just for the fun of it. Then once I saved up some money, I bought my own bike. That bike was a Giant Rincon. I thought a mountain bike would be good for getting around campus. Well, I kept riding and checking out other bikes as my riding style changed over time. I still have the Rincon, but I hardly ever ride it now.
My next bike was a Giant OCR1. By then, my friends viewed me as a bike guy. As a bike guy, one friend thought I should have their old Raleigh Capri. It was in rough shape, and using Sheldon Brown as a guide, I set it up as a fixed gear. It was a new experience for me, and I liked it. After some years, I noticed the down tube was buckled. It was likely damaged when I got it, but I had no idea what to look for. After I noticed it, I had misgivings about riding it. I do not have that frame any more.
Around 2012 I bought a used Access Comp mountain bike and set it up as a commuter. That was when I lived in Montana, where there was a decent used bike market. It was a craigslist find, and the seller was practically giving it away. I put fenders, slick tires, a rear rack, along with reflective tape and as many lights as I could cram on it. That was about the time I actually joined the forum, so I could look at pictures of other peoples' commuters! I never posted anything, but lurked and drooled at all the photos.
On a whim one day, I bought a used Trek 2200 Carbon. It mostly gets used on my stationary trainer, which is a Kurt Kinetic Road Machine (another item practically stolen off craigslist).
And my most recent bike is a Kilo WT. I missed riding fixed gear so much I wanted to get back into it, but I didn't want to scour the area for an old frame with horizontal dropouts. There isn't a huge used bike market around here. Turns out I hadn't lost my love for the feeling of a fixed gear. I really am indebted to Sheldon Brown for showing me the light. This is the bike I ride the most these days.
So there it is, a brief overview of my history with bikes! I like to work on them myself when the need arises. I consider myself competent to fix things, but I am constantly learning.
