Hello from US - NWNJ
Hello all, new guy from northwestern, NJ. My story is probably not uncommon; a once athletic, sports oriented person spends many years focussing their energy on career, raising a family, and overindulging in food and drink and wakes up an empty nester buying XXL sizes. My wife and I both want to start with some local cycling and are eager to take advantage of the area in which we live and ride some scenic trails and rails. Of course, reality is we will likely do 75% of our riding around our neighborhood but would like to ride those local trails on weekends. I used the Cyber week sales to buy a hybrid and am having it shipped to a local dealer. When we get to the dealer we will see what they have available for my wife.
Anyway, looking forward to getting started, sadly the winter will seem longer than ever. Cheers!

Yep, your story is common but it's never too late. Welcome to BF; we're here to help.

What trails do you have in mind up that way? I know of (but haven't ridden) the Paulinskill. If New Paltz is convenient, that night be a good place to start from and head north or east. East over the Hudson and beyond is paved. The Walkway Over the Hudson is neat.

Wow! Dunno what happened....reply I thought I sent doesn't seem to have made it in. In short, there are quite a few trails / paths all within 5-30 minutes of my door. Sussex Branch Trail, Randolph Trails, Kittatiny Mountain, Allamuchy trails, Waterloo, Paulinskill, South Branch Raritan, and I'm sure more I don't yet know about.
