Hi y'all - Douis from Chicago
hi y'all,
i'm douis, in chicago now, but from michigan. lifetime bike enjoyer, but only recently starting to get into wrenching on them, instead of just riding.
most of my riding is commuting, between 60-80 miles a week (somedays require not being on a bike, unfortunately), and i like weekend joy rides. chicago has some nice bike trails through a series of forest preserves that are my go-to for joyrides.
for the last ten years, i've almost exclusively ridden a 1984 fuji espree, but have recently been on a mid 90s takara scout, set up as a single speed. i also recently picked up a 1999 fuji touring series frame set that i'm building up, largely with parts from the espree, which is going to be converted to a 700c fixed gear for the fun of it.

Welcome to the Forums. I have ridden a few of the paved trails on the out outskirts of Chicago. The one I remember most is the Old Plank Trail. There are one or two others that connect with it. It was a very enjoyable ride the few times I have been on it. Some good spots for refreshments. I was born and raised in the Rockford area, have been to a lot of ballgames, concerts, museum trips, etc. in Chicago. When I was 10 years old, I got Ernie Banks autograph at Wrigley field, just missed Bill Williams. Last time in Wrigley was in, IIRC, 1988, for a night game, first season for those. Andre Dawson hit a 3 run shot in the 8th, turned out to be the winner.
Been in Coastal Delaware since 1976, a lot of good biking, but even flatter than your area. We do have a lot of wind, not nearly as cold of winters.
I just remembered another very fond memory, being in Riverview Park and riding the Parachute drop ride. Man that was exciting as a 12 year old. I just cleared the minimum height to get on it.
