Hello Bicycle Friends,
My first bicycle was a JC Higgins, I believe it was a three speed. I bought it with my paper route proceeds in my pre teens. In my early teens I acquired an Allegro Special.
That bike did have the headset and bottom bracket. I was fortunate to have an old bike shop close to my house that had new old stock Campy parts. The owner was an old
Frenchman named Charlie. What a cool guy! He sold me the parts to build the Allegro including my first pair of cycling shoes, Dietro Pietro. I bought a new Raleigh International
in 1972 and years later a Colnago Super. My wife has a Campy equipped Vitus. We also have a Schwinn Crusier and two electric bikes, my wife a Rad and I an RBSM Mud Adder.
We have participated in the San Diego area Tecate to Ensenada and Rosarito to Ensenada Mexico bike ride with friends.
As of 2 months ago I decided to try and put together another Allegro Special. I purchased an Allegro frame with serial # 214XXX. I'm trying to be as original as possible.
Because of my first Allegro build I have some idea of the parts needed. Bike forums helped me with with the approx. year of the frame which I believe is late 60's, Thank You!
As you Know the bottom bracket was most problematic with the Swiss Bike. The drive side, left hand thread Bottom Bracket bearing cup I found with the help of South Salem
Cycleworks.
I'm looking forward to any more help the site and It's members can give. Thank You, Don
