Marathon runner, now road cycling and loving it

Hey all, I'm a Canadian female, I love running marathons/ultras and recently bought a Giant OCR 2 and LOVE riding! I ride about 2 hours a day on hilly roads. I originally thought this was a great cross-training idea but it is so fun to see how far I can ride, I almost forget to do my running !! Any other runners/riders out there? Over and out...Jaz

--Happy riding and welcome to the forum.

Hi! I've always loved running and never thought I'd get into cycling. But, I tried it for cross-training and fell in love, possibly because I was never that great a runner, but I love that go-fast-go-far feeling. Now I use running as cross-training for cycling .

It's a stretch for me to claim to be a runner but yea, I "run" in preperation for my first triathalon in September. The bike is easily my favorite though. I used to MTB but bought a road bike last summer and LOVE it. The two are so different yet similar. MTBing is a lot more technical and requires different handlign skills, but I love getting into a zone and just flying on my road bike. Ok, flying may be pushing it, I ain't no Lance!

Hey, I'm another runner/trigeek convert. I started riding every morning with a buddy who's a masters bike racer in order to improve my pathetic bike leg.

Pretty soon I started running every chance I got and now I have to admit I'm a cyclist who occasionally does triathlons or 10Ks.

Thanks for the welcomes, you people are a friendly group! I'm hoping riding will be good for my running. I would love to run twice a day but I know my knees just can't do it. So here I am, running addict, and now cycling addict. Too bad I have to work, it really messes up my play time ! I wish you guys lived near me, I really need training partners. ( Mirona, good luck in Philadelphia. ) Jaz

I too am like that. I used to run a lot. My top year eas 2,600 miles. I usually did two or three marathons a year plus a dozen 10Ks and three of hour mid distance races like 10 mile or 20Ks. I started cycling and did tri's for a few years. Now I find cycling is what I like the most. I'm doing 120 miles per week on the bike and 20 running.

But what I enjoy are the long weekend rides, especially along the water.

Welcome jazmin! Runner/rider here also. Primarily a distance runner and a newbie road bike owner. I can see how cycling and become as addictive as running.

Hello! I am a 46 year old former runner, too--had to stop due to extreme pain when running. I have fallen back in love with cycling! I have a great road bike and wonderful places to ride--love the hills, and use riding to test myself every ride. I do not miss running and the pounding my body has taken, though I did miss the exhiliration--but cycling gives me that! I love going fast--I love it all. My average ride is a 25 miler through hilly wheat fields where I have seen lots of deer, wonderful birds, and last year even sighted a cougar in the distance. So, I hear ya sistah!

Tell me about it! I can't find anyone who wants to run on even my shortest days. The only person I know who runs, only does so twice a week and for 2 miles! Ugghh!

Thanks for the wishes! I am hoping to really get out there and tear it up in Philly come November.

Awww, stop that! I just WISH I could still run like I used to (5-10 mile trail runs) - too much knee pain now, but if I could have my choice I would trade biking for trail running a couple times a week in a heartbeat. I LOVE to run and really miss it!
