New "old guy" from middle Tennessee
Hello all. I am a new guy to this whole cycling thing. I stumbled across this sight when I googled "ten speed gears." I must say that it was very helpful. Some guys from church wanted to get me riding, so they have been loaning me the necessary equipment to see if I like it before I buy. My first ride was 4.2 miles. I thought I was having a heart attack. Today, one week later, 7.5 miles. Even closer to death. But seriously, I seem to be enjoying it after the pain subsides. Any tips would be appreciated.

Congrats Darrell! Keep up the good work!

Welcome to the forums. I don't know how old, old is, but you may find a great place in the 50+ forum. There are many of us who have taken back to cycling after a few years away. Training and Nutrition might do you well also. In any event welcome again and get out there riding!

this can be a lifetime sport, have fun, be safe start easy, progress only as fast as the heart, lungs, legs will allow be comfortable on the bike - get gloves and bike shorts wear a helmet lots of 10 mi rides each week are better than one 50 mi ride get advice from several sources- friends, bike shop, internet if you miss a few weeks or months, get back on the bike when you can learn to love the hills try to find a small group or club you enjoy, it's motivational tell other non-cyclists about your experiences smile and laugh a lot when on the bike |
