Just joined from Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Well, it's aboot time... my good friend has recommended this forum numerous times and I'm finally online.

A native of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada and former mountain bike racer, I recently relocated to Toronto to pursue music and other career opportunities. Funny thing is, it took a move to a large metropolitan area to finally learn that bikes are the only way to get around a city (I marvel at how even smaller centres can be completely car-reliant.) I once abused the luxury of owning a vehicle and now see the error of my ways (a record number of smog days in Toronto this year is a pungent reminder).

I am a self-proclaimed cycling advocate and have a personal mission to get more people out of their cars on onto bikes. However, I am not fanatically "anti-car" as I see benefit in their limited and responsible use. Regardless, my Corolla will soon be up for sale, freeing up more cash to support my bicycle habit!

I hope to connect with others who share this "bike-life" vision and to learn a lot - everything from bike mechanics to cycling advocacy. Yearning for cleaner air, more trails, safer roads and fitter folks.

I might as well just put my introduction in this thread as I am also a new member from Toronto, Ontario. I go to school at the University of Waterloo, but I come back to Toronto every four months to do an internship. I commute from Thornhill (suburbs) to downtown everyday for work - 45 km/28 mi roundtrip. I ride an old Raleigh mountain bike. Almost everything is stock, even the MTB tires (I like the stability of the wide knobby tires and don't mind the extra workout). Things keep breaking on it, and I can never adjust the derailleurs right, but thats all part of the fun. I eventually plan to get a more appropriate road bike and do longer commutes, such as Waterloo to Toronto (110 km/69 mi). I guess thats it... glad to be a member
