Hello there from Rome, Italy

Been lurking on and off for quite a long time. Active forum member on www.cyclingforums.com and www.bicidacorsa.com (Italian forum for roadies only).

It's good to be here!

Welcome! You some expat or something?

Question for ya- I met a guy with a DeRosa Planet who had no idea when it was made and what kind of DeRosa it was (high end, mid level, low end). Do you have some history to share on that bike (sans Chorus, though...).

I've got friends in Rome. They're all good folks. I always have good times when I'm in Rome.

No, I am not an expat or something! I am an Italian!

Whoa, history of the Planet frame. Well it was a mid-level De-Rosa frame, which went from all-Alu and eventually ended up as a an Alu main triangle, rear chain stays/triangle and fork in carbon fiber in 2003 (as per the cyclingnews pic below, mine is prettier, in pearl white).

It is now out of production, replaced by the Macro, if I am not mistaken. It is a solid bike in the De Rosa racing tradition, no frills, very stiff (maybe a bit too much for a normal human), light (not stupid light) and very good all round performance machine. Any other questions, just ask!

Good to hear you have fun in Rome. I like it here too.

Got it. His was pearl white also. I have a DeRosa Team, and I was shocked to suddenly be riding upon a DeRosa Planet out here in Washington, DC! I rode with him for a bit and we chatted, and when I asked about the bike (Ritchey headset and shimano sora components, btw), he said he had absolutely no idea about the bike, except the bike shop where he got it couldn't get rid of them, and finally, they slashed the price so low he had no choice but to buy it!

My buddies are at the Foro Romano (if I've said it right) where they spin, and they do a bunch of cycling trips. Are you in that group? If so, we might have met at one point.

De Rosa mounted with Shimano Sora?!

Congrats on riding a De Rosa. Best bikes in the world, without a doubt.

BTW, I went to university in DC and loved my time there. Always riding the criterium circuit at the park with the golf course and the guy's head (large statue) sticking out of the earth. That and Persimmon Tree road in MD, if my memory serves me correctly?!

I am in Southern Rome, not in that crowd.

I feel ya re: Southern Rome. There is a fun crowd there in Rome. If you decide to head that way, drop me a line, and I'll alert the gang.

Persimmon Tree Road is definitely a good ride. I do part of that road on Sunday mornings with another forum buddy. There are also some other crit race rats from DC here on the forums. You'd probably have good times chatting with them.

Hey, I'll drop you a PM. I should see if you're interested in letting me practice my Italian on you (though my vocabulary is very limited right now).

Oh yeah... welcome again.
