hello from northern Colorado!
Hi there, I've been biking for more than 2 years, but just now got back into road biking - I recently bought a Trek 1000, the basic road bike, after about a month of shopping around. What a commitment! Regardless, I'm trying to get about 20-25 miles a day in on the bike, and eventually I'd like to do a metric century ... if you know of any in Northern Colorado, let me know!

Welcome to the forums,
I've got to tell ya, I'm jealous! You live in the bike mecca of the U.S. I was just out your way for vacation, and I want to go back! Around here, if you see racks on a car you get excited that there is another cyclist. Out there, it was hard to find a car w/o a bike rack!
Regardless, I'm sure there are some local rides in your area. Ask the people at the shop where you bought your bike, I'd bet they'd be happy to help!

Not only is it hard to find a car without a rack, but out here it isn't hard to find cars where the content of the rack is worth several times the value of the vehicle beneath it!

There are several in the spring, a ride for the cure in the Ft. Collins area and tour de prairie in CHeyenne. I didn't get to either of these this year but hopefully next. This is the best state to bike in and more rides seem to be added all the time. A good place to find out about the Colorado rides is the Calender of Colorado Bicycling Events
