Hello from Northern IL
I live in the Rockford, IL area - which is about 75 West of Chicago, right near the state line bordering Wisconsin. Last year I purchased a Trek 1000 road bike. It's an entry level bike, but I've enjoyed about 1200 miles on it so far. Only ridden twice this year - it's still pretty darn cold here! I also have a Specialized mountain bike, which I've owned for about 6 years. I just recently replaced the knobby tires with skinnier ones without tread. I never ride it offroad anyhow - not really my interest. I haven't even taken the new tires on the road yet. :) Both of my bikes have SPD clipless pedals.
I also recently purchased my 10 year old daughter a small Trek 1000 road bike, and hope to have her riding alongside me soon. There were many times last year when I didn't ride because she couldn't go along. I've ridden a few times with a local bike club, and hope to ride more. I'd like to get into some events for the sport of "doing it" (not to win). I became more interested in road biking from a recent exboyfriend, who used to ride competitively (I think he said he rode over 400 miles in a 24 hour period once - gads!), but would never go riding with me 'cuz I had a "slow bike path bike". :( Too little, too late I guess! I'm looking forward to alot more riding this year. I'm waiting for a Kurt Kinetic trainer to arrive in the mail so that I can get my legs in shape! :) Michelle |

Yo Rockford! Lots of Northern Illinois (and southern Wisconsin) on the boards here. I'm down I-90 (or US-20) about 40 miles near Elgin.
Lots of great road riding your way, especially if you get up into Wisconsin. Good riding to you! |
Hello and welcome, I'm in Loves Park. The Perryville path that leads to Rock Cut is pretty much in my backyard. Maybe I'll see you around sometime. I'm on a Blue Raleigh M60 and wear a blue helmet. I saw in another post you're a member of the Blackhawk Bike and Ski club. I think I'll go do a ride or two with you guys and see how it goes. I'm a little slower, riding a mountain bike (mostly on the roads or paths but once in a while on the trails at Rock Cut) but I do plan on purchasing an entry level road bike in the next month or so. How's the Trek 1000 been going for you? An positive or negative thoughts on it?

Currently live in Milwaukee. Will be moving to Rockford in July. Looking forward to riding there. Info here (this thread) has been helpful. Would appreciate any more comments/info on riding (road) in Rockford.
