Newb- my poor Bianchi ; ;

hey everyone.
I'm new here, name is Charles, and I'm looking to get into cycling.
The main reasons are commuting and weight loss. Currently, I'm 280 at 6'1" (down from 305 by jogging, but that's become so boring). I also hope to one day join the ranks of the car-free.

ANYWAYS, I was looking at bikes today. Every bike salesman I've spoken to recommended a hybrid, so that's what I assumed I would get.
After a thoroughly uninspiring ride on a Specialized Cirrus, I hopped on a Bianchi Volpe, and was in love.
The low bars felt natural, probably thanks to my 3 years of sport motorcycle riding, and it was so beautiful.

I come back to the shop a few hours later to buy the Volpe, and SOMEONE ELSE BOUGHT IT.
My heart broke...
Salesman said I could order one, but I wouldnt' get the $75 off he offered earlier, and it would take over a week for shipping.

I test rode a couple of treks after that, and a lemond, but nothing is the same as the Bianchi. That Volpe and I had a special bond... the kind of bond that inspires a person to create art...

So I don't have a bike, but hi!

Welcome to BikeForums.

Great looking bike.
Isn't there another Bianchi dealer in Tallahassee?

Welcome, and congrats on finding your bike, even if you did not get it. At least you know what feels right for you, which is the most important thing. Where do you plan on doing most of your riding? Hybrids are nice and versatile but lack the finesse of a road bike. If a cross bike like the volpe is what you like, see if you can find a Kona dealer in the area and look at a Kona Jake. The Redline Conquest also gets some good reviews.

Hi Charles. I'm Jon and I have a Bianchi Veloce that I'm getting fitted to on Monday. It's an '05. I called Bianchi in Hayward Cali and had them check on every 61cm '05 and give me retail prices. I then called my local dealer and had them order it. Bianchi seems to treat the consumer better than the dealer. I saved about $400.00. I drove 20 minutes just to look at it today-art indeed. I also got 10% off my accessories(pretty standard). I'm a newb as well. My first roadbike to complement my DRZ400s and my Super Hawk. Good luck and contact me if I can help. JP

thanks for the replies

There is no other Bianchi dealer in Tallahassee, that I know of. There's a small shop around campus I'm gonna check tomorrow. I'm hoping they also carry Konas...

The Jake is a bike I'm also in love with. It's such a good looking bike. However, the only Kona dealer in town is the same dealer which had the Bianchi. At least Kona mountain bikes, anyways. Every time I mentioned a Kona Jake or Dew, the salesman would change the subject. I would have to get them to order it, and I'm guessing they make more profit off the other models.

Well, I'll find something. I'm itching to ride.

Sort of like looking at the world through celeste-colored glasses?
