New to it all!
 

Just taking a few to introduce myself as I am new to this site and will begin commuting in a couple of weeks now. I'm currently in Upstate NY but will be moving quite soon to Austin TX for a new job. In the process I will be giving up my car and embarking on a healthier and more simple lifestyle. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I am new to this and can use all the help I can get! Looking forward to sharing my experiences and becoming an active member of this community.

If you are giving up your car, life will be a lot easier if you live within walking distance of shops, public transport and work. Since you are moving anyway for your work, this will be a lot easier to achieve. I was carless when I moved to Montreal and took this into consideration when looking for a place to live. I have a car now but I am still very happy with the my location. good luck.
