I've been lurking around these boards for a while, thought I'd say hi. I'm 28 and last summer I hadn't ridden a bike for 10 years and had a Cannondale mtn bike I took in to get tuned, etc, to start riding again. 24 hours later I had a brand new Raleigh R600. Within a month I was riding 80-100 miles a week, weather and time permitting. Went from 6' 230 to 200lbs within that month, and haven't gained any back.
I got a trainer, but obviously it's not the same riding in-doors, and it's wearing my back tire out. But, I"m still able to ride outside a couple times a week. Around a windy lake (Lake Hefner) I'm averaging 17+ on a 20 mile ride, which is pretty good considering I'm still just starting. I've gone 30 a few times and I don't think 50 would be much of a problem at all. Now though, I want to do those distances at a 20mph+ speed, and hopefully do my first century by the end of summer.
A friend of mine saw how quickly I've been getting in shape and got himself a K2 week before last and has put on 100 miles already.
Hate the gym, hate running, love riding. . the bike is a life changer!

Way to go! Keep up the riding. Wait until you get your speed up, you'll be even more encouraged. Cycling is great!

Roadlearner,
Welcome to Bike Forums. It's great to hear your back on the bike again. I agree, a bike WILL change your life!! I ride a '99 Raleigh R600. Can't say enough good about it. Lots of good people and good advice here.

Thanks. . I've found a lot of good info on these boards without a doubt! Looking forward to more daylight and better weather. I'd still be way out of shape and sitting on my butt if it wasn't for the bike, I have no doubt.
