Hello from Lincoln, Nebraska
Hey everyone,
I just joined up tonight as I continue my research into all things cycling. Last fall I made a commitment to get in shape and lose some pounds. As part of the effort, I wanted to spend some more time outdoors. A knee injury during the first half of the year kept me from exploring that extensively until just recently. Now I'm looking to cycling!
Last week I picked up my brand new 15.5" Marin San Anselmo city bicycle to replace my old Trek MountainTrek bike I used only 4 or 5 times per year. The bike feels great, but I am still working on tweaking seat height, and my front wheel wobbles a bit (I've removed it and put it back on many times, with no effect). Sometimes it wobbles enough to scrape the break pads. Also the gear shifting seems a bit iffy at times. I plan on biking over to the shop this weekend and see if they can take a look.
So far my accessories include a small pack on the seatpost (may need a larger one), a LED tail light, a CatEye Halogen headlight, helmet (of course), gloves, and a cable lock. On the list of "may purchase" items are a rear rack, a panier, and fenders.
My biggest hope with cycling is to reduce or completely eliminate my need of a car on most days. That means biking too and from work, and too and from the grocery store. My legs are sore and not fully trained. I feel like I'm going incredibly slow at times. I hope to give the commute to work a try on Monday and that my legs will gradually gain their strength.
Any recommendations for a new commuting cyclist? Also, anyone from Nebraska or the Lincoln area?

I am also from lincoln and have been commuting by bike since 2001 or somewhere around that time frame. Are you still riding? How is your commuting going?

I think that Brad is still commuting, if his posts in the Commuting forum are any indication

I am still commuting, but I moved to Vancouver, BC last month. Just haven't updated my profile yet. It's definitely a joy to not have to rely on a car to get around.
