Hello from SW Ohio

Joined today to take advantage of the experience in the group. I haven't ridden since I was 19, and let's just say that's a long time ago. Bikes sure have changed since the days of the traditional 10 speed well known in my day. My experience then was living close to Valley Forge and biking daily in the park. Never competitive, it was my only transportation; it wasn't unusual to ride 10-20 miles a day for me then.

As S.E Hinton said, "That was then, this is now."

My wife and I are going to purchase bikes next week for some casual/recreational riding and to work a little on fitness. We've already ridden a couple of different bikes and have a general idea of the fit we're looking for. Looking at comfort/hybrid bikes that won't tax the budget for non hard-core riders as we expect to be. Funny about the old adage, it really was easy as riding a bike; I had forgotten how much fun it felt to ride so I'm looking forward to some nice rides. We are fortunate enough to live very close to a well constructed paved bike path that runs for over 30 miles, and we would like to take advantage of it.

My main hobby is hotrodding having rebuilt a 1955 Chevrolet that I've owned for over 25 years. I also play at guitar and pretty fair handed with a camera. I look forward to reading and occassionaly contributing to the forum.

Happy Trails...

As mentioned above, my wife and I bought new bikes today complete with helmets and water bottle/racks from our LBS. Both of them are basic comfort/hybrid bikes for paved paths and local running about; we don't plan on being hardcore (yet) so we kept expenses modest.

Mine - Schwinn Sierra GS, 15" frame (I'm only 5'1"...hence the humorous moniker) and needed to get the right fit. Maroon/Silver-Grey (Go Bucks!) & 21 gears. It is very comfortable for a returning rider and so far I love it.

Dawn's - Trek 7100 , 17.5" frame (she's 5'7"); it's a muted silver/moss green and 21 gears. She too finds her fit very comfortable.

We have already taken a maiden voyage for an approximate 3 mile trip to the post office and back. I feel like a kid again!
