Hi from Berkeley CA
I graduated from college recently and finally have time to start riding in earnest. I've wanted to do this for a couple years, but time and money were just too tight.
Right now I'm riding a 96 Bianchi Timberwolf in a mediocre state of repair. It gets me to and from work, and I go on short (<10mi) local rides on the weekends, mixed road and trial riding. My goal is to build a budget road bike and get more regular and longer rides under my belt, and eventually get a more trail-worthy mountain bike.
I'm still getting back into shape, so I don't think I could keep up with a group of accomplished riders. I'm wondering, how should I go about meeting people in the hobby and going on regular rides? I want to learn as much as I can, but I don't know where to begin.
Thanks
Matt

Try Grizzly Peak Cyclists. It's a Berkeley based group.

Thanks for the links Scoop. The GPC ride rating system is especially helpful--now I can time myself and see where I rank. Do you ride with them often?

I ride often, but usually solo or with a couple of neighbors. I have nothing against group rides, but just prefer riding alone or with very small groups.
