Another Philadelphian...

I've been riding for about 4 years, started shortly after entering college (Drexel University). At first I had a cheap mountain bike for commuting between home (in the city) and my part-time job (also in the city), but then I moved on to a cheap fixed gear to hang with the cool kids. After the initial excitement of that died down and my commute increased (from 3 miles to 10 miles to now 17 miles), I ditched the fixie in favor of gears and bought a cheap road bike (the cheap theme is recurring, I know). There's something really cool to me about starting out my day at 5:30am by getting on my bike and making the trek into the city - through street, dirt and stone. You get to work and are still pumped from the ride, while your coworkers are still grumbling about, trying to wake themselves up with caffeine.

Right now I'm looking for an upgrade to my bike in the $1000-$1500 range. I tested the Cannondale R700 today and really dug it.

Besides riding, I rock climb (my primary physical activity, I guess), do capoeira (my new endeavor, Wikipedia it if you're not familiar), run, learn languages, work full time (as a web developer at a hospital), go to school full time, read, and try to find time to work on my own (mostly n3rdy) projects.

I've got a lost of useful info out of these boards over the years and I'm physched to now be a member.

See ya!

What do you do in your spare time?

With a 17 mile commute, where are you riding from, out in the suburbs? I ride with two clubs, Suburban Cyclists Unlimited and Central Bucks Bike Club, if you are interested in weekend rides with some nice folks.

Oh, and what LBS are you dealing with for your new bike purchase? Remember the importance of fit.
