Hello everyone.

Just wanted to introduce myself to the community. I am currently using a friends bike (who doesn't ride anymore) but looking around to buying a new one for myself. I got on this forum so that I can get some ideas on what to look for and to share some experiences I've had, and want to know more about the sport.

Welcome to the forum, rod. There's a lot of great advice here. First piece of advice, if I may: use that friend's bike to figure out what you like and don't like before buying your own.

My friends bike is a specialized rockhopper I believe. No shocks at all so at the end of my rides my butt is aching. I seem to be leaning towards a full suspension.

Suspension choice is very dependent on the type of riding you will be doing. If you don't plan to be doing very aggresive (ie: downhill) riding then having a softail can be a disadvantage. Though it is more comfortable you loose power and manuverablility. What kind of riding to you think you want to get involved in?

Lots of trail and some downhill. We've been going to about four different places to ride and they are not too aggresive.
