Toronto hobby-rider
greetings folks...
i've been riding here in Toronto recreational and for transportation for about 8 years, even worked as a courier for a few summers while in college - i kinda miss it!
i always got around on this Canadian Tire issue mountain bike, went thru 2 of them after the first one got tiefed from being parked out front of my apartment for all of 10 minutes in the middle of the afternoon.
both my younger bros are bike nuts, one of them threw together a nice single-speed based on a 90s Specialized Carbon Allez. thing rode like a dream after pushing that other tank around for years! but then THAT got lifted after only riding it for about a month. really miss it, was one of those black/red deals with nifty chrome lugs that flanged out, looked stylin'.
so now i had my other bro, who works at a respected bike shop, start salvaging an older steel Miele a customer was ready to ditch - but now i just scored a 2006 Langster already converted to fixed off eBay! pretty excited to start riding that, it'll be my first fixie. both my bros ride fixed around town, sounds like it'll be abit of a challenge but i'm pretty psyched to get rollin'.
anyway, that's my biking experience in a nut-shell.. see ya on the road.
peace,
joe

Don't Langsters come w/ flipflop free/fixed hubs? To convert it, you just flip the rear wheel, right?
In any case, congrats and welcome to BF. Tons of fixie riders in Toronto and the boards so you'll have no problems meeting up w/ like minded dudes who like to ride.

thanks for the warm welcome.
actually the fixie forum is how i found this place, was Googling some stuff for research and a post from there came up.
to answer your question, jy - i believe the entry level Langster comes just single-speed but can be modded with a flipflop hub. the next model up already has that mod - the one i'm getting is the entry one that's been modded.
can't wait to hit the road!
