1975 Motobecane

Hello, this is a first time post. I started riding again after about 20 years. Currently I am on a Spalding 12 sp ATB. It is hard to push for road speed, even though the tires are not as wide as a Mt. Bike. So, I have been looking for a road bike. I dropped off some Goodwill items today and found a Motobecane road bike labeled "as is". For $22.65 (that's with a discount) I found this bike with air in tubes and everything ready. It has Sun Tour front and rear deraileur and shifters, Sun Tour cranks, 1020 frame and forks. Weinmann 610 centerpull brakes, Compte levers, unknown gear set (5) rear, (2) front, unknown wheels. How is this going to ride? I will clean, lube and replace tires tommorrow and hope to get a couple of miles for fitting purposes.

Great find Brad! Should ride nice, especially if those are alloy wheels. Looks like a leather saddle on there too. Welcome to BikeForums too.

Hey Brad,

I have a Motobecane Super Mirage of the same vintage (picture is in my profile). My biggest complain is the 5 speed in the back. A lot of times one gear is too big and the next is too short, and I believe it is geared for touring, so I'm gonna try to get it replaced with a 7, 8, or 9 speed cassette.

Have fun riding!
