Hey From NZ
Hey from New Zealand
Im new to tandems but love every second I'm riding.
Tandems aren't real big around here and I wouldn't own one if I hadnt built it.
Here's an early pic of my ride... As it was built from stuff I had lying around there is still much to do and several things to upgrade... But I'm puttin some miles on it and havin a blast until winter sets in.

Welcome to the old forums where we take on a Jerry Seinfeld approach and talk about nothing...just kidding. Did you say you built this? Did you construct the frame or put the components on?

Checked out your website. Way to go building the tandem. Did you use lugs or what sort of welding/brazing?

Hey...
I have a good mate that owns a mig welder and we used that to weld it... it's a lot cooler type of weld than the arc welding so there is a little bit less risk of distortion... an added bonus is that it's a whole lot easier to file and clean up the joints than with arc.
I spent a fair bit of time shaping the tubes to fit neatly before we welded them, for this I used an angle grinder to rough out the shape then filed it to get a neat fit.
Im thinking that over the winter I might replace some of the tubes... ie top, downtube and the bottom tube with a larger dia tubing.
It was worth all the effort though because yesterday my non-riding wife had a ride on it and she wants to go out again today.
