a beginner in Austin

...actually found a road bike and want to develop the habit. Tried a short course triathlon 2 years ago and bonked hard in the swim - actually got hit in the face by another swimmer, and burned myself up in recovery. Turning 40 in a three weeks and want to get myself together for my three kids.

Anyone out there have a training regimen they'd like to suggest?

As I am sure you are aware there are a ton of cyclists in your area. I get down to Austin to visit my mother at least once a year and I love to ride while I am there. Tons of group rides so I would suggest finding a group ride that fits your abilities and meet some other roadies.

Have fun and maybe you will join the next BF group ride I get together when I come down (we just did this in Oct when I was there for the Livestrong ride).

Check out the Austin Bicycling Association - they have group rides every weekend. I think the website is www.austinbicyclingassociation.org - but its been a while. If you join you also have access to their maps. I'm a big fan of riding out in the country between Georgetown and Round Rock. My sponsor 360 Cycleworks does a no drop shop ride every Sunday. We always have a team member riding sweep to make sure everyone is doing ok and knows the route. It starts from behind the shop at 8:30 Sunday mornings.

Thanks to both of you.

The ACA website is great - that is exactly what I was looking for.
