Hello from Central MA

I found this forum while looking for winter cycling information. I'm 16 and I'm from Ayer, MA. I've always ridden my bike a lot, but this year I have been riding my bike to school every day (it's only ~3 miles). It's been a pretty mild winter so far, but this week we had two sub-10F mornings, and we got our first significant accumulation of snow today. I like the challenge of riding in the winter.

Hi Mike,
Good to hear from you. You'll like the forums. We don't get what you could call an "accumulation" here in South Carolina unless mosquitos count . And the thought of riding in subzero doesn't sound so good either. (I'm just a tad older than you and probably less adventurous). But... I love to ride and I love a good hard workout. Are you playing footballl, or doing track? These will make you a stronger cyclist. Stay involved with other cyclists and let us know what you are up to.

Hello Mike,

We don't normally get much of a challenge in Puget Sound except for the rain, but this year we have had plenty of snow and ice. Now we are starting to understand what it is those of you who are the Northeast go through, even if it is a pale imitation.

I got out and rode in the ice/snow today, and managed to get in 9 miles and only dumped myself once.

But it was good to get out and ride.

Welcome to BF!

I'm glad you like the challenge of winter riding because I just got back to western MA from California and this cold is killing me! I dread having to get my commuter bike ready. That's life here, though!
