Let's see here....
I live in Cambridge, MA and am an architect and just started biking seriously last summer. I have a Cannondale M1000 mountain bike and it has become like a best friend to me! Whenever I feel grumpy or tired or just need some time to think I just take it out for a few hours and we sort it out!

I don't know how I ever lived without biking before! I am working for a company in the burbs about 10 miles out and started riding to work last summer. It love it. I'd like to do it everyday, but sometimes I get lazy

I did a 50 mile ride last year in Maine and had a great time. Would love to do a 100 but worry about being the only one on a mountain bike...maybe I can make room for two bikes one day.

Thank you and hi! I have given it some thought and do need new tires but am not sure....I go offroad sometimes but nothing hard-core just some trails. 90% is on road- though there are some serious pot holes around here!
Any advice about good tires would certainly be appreciated!

Hey! An architect from Portland ....VERY INTERESTING! ! I have long been thinking about a move to Portland, I've studied it quite a bit in school and looked into arhcitecture firms there---looks like there are some good firms. I am into (for lack of better words) "sustainable design" and people are much more into that on the west coast that out here.
i'd be curious to here more about what you are into, where you are on your journay as an architect, how biking fits into your life, biking in portland....all kinds of things realy! I am actually working for Autodesk right now...I was working for a small design studio for several years after I graduated, but after a few years of literally 80 hour weeks every week (not paid of course) I was getting fat and depressed and broke and needed to have more time for ...uh...LIFE!
So I took this job at Autodesk Revit designing 3D software and that is when I got into biking. I bikied in today as a matter of fact and I feel great.
I plan on returning to the field though eventually- I love it too much, but right now am just having fun and doing competitions to keep me in the grooove. I just finished one and turned it in today actually - I'm kind of tired!
Anyway - sorry to ramble...nice to hear from you!

I used to ride from Westford to Cambridge and sometimes into Boston because it was such a fun place, with interesting architecture. I now live in Georgia where the architecture is not as interesting and true antiques are rare. I wonder what Portland would be like. Welcome to the forums!

Hey - what part of Georgia? I used to live near Savannah - beautiful town. There are some really pretty places there too. The coastal marshes are some of my favorite landscapes.

The landscape here is ok- but you are right the architecture makes it - atleast around boston. I ride this trail called the minuteman and it goes through alot of early colonial areas. One time I stopped at a place where they re-enact colonial life- making candles and shooting muskets. Realy neat to be able to ride a bike and sstop to see that.
