Introducing Myself

Hello to All:
Allow me to introduce myself. I am a 48 year-old man living in Bristol, TN. I came to BikeForums after googling folding bikes. I am exploring folding bikes as a solution to a problem that I have. I enjoy kayaking and canoeing the many small rivers in my area. These are fishing and paddling trips, combining two very enjoyable activities. Unfortunately, unless you have a very available partner with whom to position two autos at put-in and take-out, or unless you are able to paddle upriver (very difficult in these skinny waters), you have a broken link in your roundtrip. A folding bike, taken in a durable raft like the Alpacka, could be my solution. The rivers are invariably paralleled by a rural road, often dirt or gravel. This plan would combine three favored activities: biking, paddling and fishing! When my wife and I were stationed by the Army in Frankfurt Germany in 1988, we lived in a small town about 16 km from my work. We bought two Specialized Hardrock mountainbikes from a small shop in Heidelberg. Using paniers, I often biked back and forth to work. I miss that. Of course, even then Germany was very bike friendly which is not the case where I live now. We still have our Specialized MTBs although my wife's has become my son's (he didn't exist in 1988.) I look forward to getting back into bicycling. Back then, it was about fun. Now, it will be about fun and exercise.

Hello Bonasus, it's always great when one can combine all those interest into one package, isn't it?

I'm certain that the Folding Bikes forum folks can give you a hand when you want to make a decision. You might want to take a look in the Commuting and Carfree Living forums as well--just in case you ever feel inclined to tow your kayaks/canoes to the put-in/take-out sites. It seems to me that I've read of at least one member who does that very thing.

Welcome to BF!
