Titletown Rider joining up

Hello from Gainesville FL, home of the Gators.

I ride road and trail, preferring singletrack. 45 years old, physician, 3 kids. I am 5' 9" and was up a little over 200 lbs a few months ago. Years off the bike at least with any regularity. Now, between running, riding and not eating everything in front of me, I am down to 185. My youngest kid is 5 and my wife has been very supportive in giving me the time to go. It feels good!

Hello spyderknut, your story is not unlike that of many who come to Bike Forums .

What kind of bikes have you got? Have you gotten your wife and kids interested in biking yet?

Glad to have you back in the fold, and

Welcome to BF!

Biachi BOSS
Dean Colonel
Ibis bow-ti
Diamondback Ti roadbike
Iron horse steel roadbike for pulling kids on an alley cat
Earth Cruiser that I commute to work on -- this one is 17 years old -- broke the original handle bar not too long ago. Replaced it with an inverted road bar from the parts bin. Goofy looking but it works and no one wants to steal it.

We need to get you started down that rocky path to addiction to vintage steel .

That's an esoteric collection, but a fine group of bikes!

Next up, a tandem...

My wife and I have been talking about a tandem for years.....

She knows how I drive and ride.

Kids all ride. Still trying to get my 7 yo daughter to the point where she can forego the security of training wheels. She has seen her maniac brothers. A common thread appearing?

Don't worry, she'll eventually get tired of them. Two weeks later she'll be asking for the BMX bike .

Yes, that does seem to be a common thread--I'm surprised it's not been turned into a sticky somewhere .
