Another Newb is Born

Good Morning,

I suppose a quick introduction is needed.

Name: Gary
Location: Suburbs of Chicago
Reason for Cycling: Being one of many American's that are taken back by high gas prices I have decided to jump in to the bicycling craze which I'm certain many other people like myself have done or will be doing.

In early July I will be moving to a new condo within 5 miles of my job which now opens up the possibility of biking to work rather than driving. At this time I do not own a bike which is what brought me here. I'm hoping to see what others much more experienced than I have to say on the subject and am looking to get suggestions (in the other forums) on what I should purchase.

Seeing I haven't rode a bike since I was an early teenager I'm looking foward to once again experincing the thrill I felt back then. I figure nothing but positives will emerge as the exercise will be good (although I do work out regurarly), the money I will save on gas, the wear and tear on my car, and the positive results my actions will have on the environment. And to add a bit of shock value I'm a republican but don't hold that against me! lol

The only downer of course is I know I won't be doing this during the Chicago winters which is a bummer. Still I look foward to what I hope will be a decision which will have positive effects on my life as well as those around me.

I look foward to interacting with many of you.

Don't worry Gary--we've got you covered! Commuting forum, Winter Riding forum, we've even got a thread in Living Car Free for conservatives (of course, true conservatives are welcome here, don't worry). Check out the Great Lakes regional forum to say hi to the locals, as well.

The Commuting forum should get you off to a good start for now, though .

Welcome to BF!
