Back on the saddle again...

Hello all. Wow! I love the Internet. There are communities for everything. Glad to find you.
My name is Chris and I reside in suburban Sacramento, CA. I grew up on a bike. In my past, I've gone more than 100 miles in a day (114 on one occasion, but typically 40-50 was my max). I spent a week in Moab and only went over the bars 1x (tooting horn :p ). However, those days are 15 years behind me and I haven't been on a bike at all in about 10 years. Wife, mortgage, career, 2 kids and MIRACULOUSLY no extra weight later, I rrrrrreally want to get back into riding. I bought a Marin Bear Valley in 1990 (all I could afford) and replaced just about every part on it at some point during its lifetime. I finally put it in the donation pile after it didn't sell in a garage sale for $50, so now some homeless guy has a sweet ride (black with the neon yellow Jackson Pollack treatment). It was motivation to get a new bike to gather dust on a hook in my garage :D . I have spent the past year mulling over if I want a roadie or a mtb and have decided that I should go for a mtb. Been looking for some time and I am getting to the point of dropping some coin on a ride. As for a question... Anyone have a gander at how much a stock 2003 Specialized Enduro Comp in excellent condition should be worth... I like the bike but don't really know what it's worth... He's asking $850 obo which seems somewhat high. I want to give him a fair price that we'd both be happy with. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I would like to get going on a couple of rides and then hit Northstar for some downhill fun (not doing trails INSANE enough to need a full-on DH bike) before the end of summer. Thanks!!!

Hey Minivandirveby! You sound like much of the folks on BikeForums. You'll fit in well. :)

Hello Chris, you are not like many of us in keeping off the weight though. That IS a miracle.

Don't forget to check the regional forum for Northern California--there are quite a few members in the Sacramento area.

Welcome to BF!

Thanks

Thanks for welcome. I have lots of family in your neck East Hill (SeaTac, West Seattle, Mukilteo) and visit there about 1-2x/year. Nice part of the world.
So I babble about getting a mtb in my introduction early this morning and then I see an ad for a 5200 trek for $450... WOAH! Hold the phone! I've been set on a mtb for weeks but that is just saying buy me. Guy has someone looking at it tonight and it will probably be gone and I'll be back to my mtb search. I keep waffling. A roadie makes a lot of sense since I have miles of open empty road behind my house and I have to Drive to go awd. Such a dilemma!!! What to do? (Don't say "both" because there's only so many hours in a day ;) ).
I see there's a lot of No. Cal people here. Most of them are roadies too. Great community. Thanks again for the welcome.
I gotta get a bike!

I would go with road, personally. But that's because I know that you've got the American River Trail RIGHT THERE!

It is a nice area here...definitely not as hot as Sacramento :) .

God bless Craigslist. The Enduro comp I was looking at sold dagnabbit. The guy ended up selling it for $700 which is what I was going to offer, he was just too far away to grab it. On Friday morning a guy just a few miles away is selling his sons Stumpy FSR-XC. I check it out. Everything is stock (including 7 year old tires:eek: ) and It doesn't look like it's seen any action other than it was parked outside for some of its life (brake bolts have surface rust on em'). Guy doesn't know anything about the bike other than his son studying in Europe needs $$$ (probably in Amsterdam  ) and wants Dad to sell the bike ASAP. He just had it tuned-up and everything works great. I got it for $450. Took it on a 30-mile road run yesterday and it performed fabulously. Incredibly nimble ride. Stoked.
Now I'm officially able to spam these forums with misc. mayhem. Look out!
