Hi from YSOH

Hi biker folk.

My dad turned me on to this site -- he is a 65 yr old avid biker -- and I quickly concluded that there probably wasn't a better group of people to start chatting with on the WEB.

I am a post 40 male who quit smoking on 4/20; live within a stones throw (1/2 mile) of an incredible paved trail system; barring snow cover, ride year round; and recently began to commute the 25 miles to work a minimum of three days per week. I also ride several 50's on top of the commutes and hope to increase both: the frequency of the commutes and the distances of the other rides.

I own three bikes: road, hybrid and mountain. The road bike gets the most attention; it's the commuter. The hybrid is my shopper, whereas the mountain is my all terrain animal.

Goals: more centuries, faster commuting, clear lungs, fun...

Hello BVT, you sound as if you've made a commitment there...have you done any centuries yet? It sounds as if you've already checked out the place, so enjoy yourself, and don't forget to do some posting!

Welcome to BF!

Hi, East Hill.

Thanks for the note.

Yes, I have ridden a few centuries; all have been painful experiences. The most recent century was in late May and it resulted in a sore calf muscle that hung with me for several days (I had just begun using clipless pedals and blame them for awakening unused muscles).

I have since focused on general conditioning runs: riding faster and faster commutes, plus pushing myself on the fifty mile rides instead of just joy riding like I've done in the past.

I plan to ride another century this upcoming weekend (Saturday) and expect it to be pain free.

Do century rides suit you?

BVT

I have never done an organised century, just a couple on my own. Living in an area with a lot of hills, let's just say it's an interesting experience :D .

But a worthwhile experience, for sure.
