Hello from NYC

Hello! I heard about bikeforums from my housemate, eboo, who inspired me to buy a bike (a nice little Trek hybrid). I've lived in NY for 7 years, but am originally from the SF Bay Area. And I've never had a car. I commuted by bike/bus in California--used to ride 100 miles a week. Haven't ridden in years, though, and am looking forward to getting back into it!

And, like eboo, I'm a librarian. And a musician. Librarians RAWK.

East Hill 06-21-07 07:43 PM

Hello librariansrawk, it's good to see someone who's car free, especially if you are originally from the Bay Area. I hope we will be seeing some more posts from you in the Living Car Free and Commuting forums :) .

Welcome to BF!

Woot! Welcome aboard!!

Maybe you can help pull Eboo out for some more rides, she's been a hermit lately ;)

What do you play? I'm a musician myself, tuba and brass mostly.

Oh - and come over to Foo...we're a fun bunch and won't bite too much but even if we do no one complains ;)

[Get major points and post here :D]

Welcome aboard.....any friend of Eboo is a friend of mine!:D

Do drop by Foo! If you're anything like Eboo at all, you'll love it there!:D

Michigander 06-21-07 10:40 PM

Greetings:)

Librarians are indeed cool. Especially my mom who is in charge of a library.

I must side with Tom. You simply must check out Foo. Librarian Foosters double rawk.;)

KingTermite 06-21-07 11:07 PM

Another hawt smart librarian cyclist? They come in stereo? Am I really hearing this? Is it for real?

I'm in double trouble...

Siu Blue Wind 06-22-07 05:52 AM

Hello there! You're from the Citay??? Mee too!! WOO HOO! Which part? I was born and raised in the Citay and moved over to Contra Costa. I hung around Richmond District mostly but lived over by "Top of the Hill".

If you are from where I'm from then you have that special craziness about you that only comes from us Natives of SF. Come over to Foo where you will certainly have fun!:)

What Tom said! :D Welcome to BikeForums! :D

Don't forget, though, that the original purpose of Bike Forums was to talk about 'bikes'.

:roflmao:

Welcome! Drag eboo and yourself to Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park tonight in Brooklyn to watch Wild Style @ 8:30 pm. Bring a flattened cardboard box and white gloves. Headspins before the movie.

VegaVixen 06-22-07 07:34 AM

Welcome to BF, LR! :)

As East Hill said, you can probably contribute quite a bit to and take from the Living Car Free and Commuting forums. And there's so much more on BF, like Bike Mechanics forum, if you want to be your own wrench. Be sure to ride around and check out the various forums. And when you need that break from the bike, come on in, put your feet up, grab some pie or a beer (it's all carbs), and Foo around with us!

Oh, and don't think that we roadies won't bring you to the dark side. :D We've already assimilated Jon and Siu! Bwahahahahaha!

jsharr 06-22-07 08:02 AM

Welcome to BF!!!! Come on over to FOO and don't forget to ask Eboo about her underwater archeology themed restaurant, BigFeet Eboo's House of Explody Crabs.

More hawt librarians? Oooh we are in for a special treat.... I mean you're in for a special treat!! woooot! Come check out foo baybuh.

librariansrawk 06-22-07 12:26 PM

Thank you all for your warm (dare I say "hawt"?) welcome! I will check out the car-free, commuter, and "foo" forums.

Tom: I'm a diabetic too! The other kind, though--my pancreas just stopped making insulin when I was 11. Maybe someday I'll do the Tour de Cure as well!

Air: I'm a singer/songwriter. I play guitar and I'm just starting to sorta teach myself piano because I inherited someone's rather nice keyboard and have been hearing this countermelody for one of my songs in my head for some time...you know how it is. Tuba and brass! You're a real musician! Way cool.

Siu Blue Wind: I say SF Bay Area because most people aren't that familiar with the area. I actually grew up in (and biked all over) San Jose/Campbell. My sister's in SF, though, so when I visit I stay with her and am getting to know the citay a bit better!

Hello and welcome! :) I play guitar and write/sing songs as well! I also play the flute, and I'm trying to teach myself violin. I would love to learn the cello. How long have you been playing guitar? Isn't is sooo fun? :D

There are definitely a ton of commuters here! You should also stop by to play in foo. That's where all the cool kids hang. ;)

East Hill 06-22-07 01:55 PM

Hey, when I worked for the P.O. in San Jose, my sorting scheme was the city of Campbell. I grew up in Cambrian Park/West Valley, right on the LG border.

What high school did you attend?

librariansrawk 06-22-07 03:28 PM

No way!

Wow, that is quite the coincidence! I was Westmont High, Class of '95! And I went to West Valley briefly, and De Anza briefly as well.

Aw, I'm so jealous of violinists and cellists! Fiddle sounds really good with my music! :) I've been singing since birth (family of musicians), and took up the guitar about 12 years ago because I really wanted to write my own stuff. I'm a pretty good self-taught guitarist. Can't read tab or notation but I've got a good ear. How about you? Got any music on the web?

See you in foo. (what does "foo" mean anyway?)

donnamb 06-22-07 06:53 PM

Ask that on Foo. :D
