greetings from Cambridge, MA

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum, a long time city rider and an experienced SAG rider. I'm planning my first touring ride for later this summer: Seattle down to San Francisco along the Pacific coast. I've got a Trek 520 that I'm working on outfitting for the trip. Looks like there's lots of good advice here!

Hello spaceman, that sounds like a great ride. You've probably already found the Touring forum, but don't forget to check into the regional forums as well to say hi to the locals.

How much time are you planning on taking for the tour?

Welcome to BF!

Hi East Hill,

I have two options for the trip: I can either go along with a friend (and a support driver!) but go at a much faster pace than I was planning, or go it alone and take my time. If the latter, I'll have the whole month of August to make the trip, which should allow plenty of time for any unforeseen delays.

Support is nice to have! I suppose it's all in what you want to accomplish, though. By yourself without SAG allows more of a meditative journey. Having a friend and support means not worrying quite so much, and is faster.

Both ways have good points, and both have some drawbacks...
