Hello out there,

Just thought I'd say hi. I'm new to adult cycling. I haven't been on a bike since I was 12, when I had a pink, single speed Huffy with banana seat and streamers!

I bought myself a 2006 Trek 7300 Hybrid about 3 weeks ago, and I love riding it. I've been going out nearly everyday. I'm now up to 11 miles in 90 minutes, which is pretty good for me, considering that my routes contain some pretty steep grades.

My goal with cycling is cardio health first and weight loss second. Over the next 2-3 years I would like to loose about 50 lbs. I'm in pretty good general health, no high Blood Pressure or high cholestoral. I'm just out of shape, but live a pretty active lifestyle with a physically demanding job.

I live in Denver, so if any of you bike the High Line Canal or Cherry Creek Trails and you see a cyclist on a Trek with bight Florescent Yellow bike shoes, feel free to say hi! (but please don't laugh if I subsequently crash!)

I started on gold schwinn with a banana seat and sissy bar. Then I moved up to a real road bike when I lived in Denver 20 years ago. There are some nice bike trails out there, but watch out for those giant thorns (I used to flat almost daily.) Also, I think Washington Park is a nice place to do some laps.

Congrats on the new Trek! Do they still hold the 'Ride the Rockies' out there? I always wanted to do that ride.

Hello Rokzane, if you have a Trek, why does your user name say 'On her Nishiki'? I have five Nishikis myself, so this is no idle question .

I started getting seriously into cycling after I moved to Denver. Well, Golden then Wheatridge. Just messed around with the D.B.T.C. until I saw some fun riders going up Mt. Evans. I determined to do that the next year and did. Try picking some cycling goal to motivate you. I had relatives in Ft. Collins and Brush which motivated me to do some longer rides.

Hi Ken,

I actually do have a goal . By the end of September I want to be able to bike the whole High Line Canal Trail across town (about 46 miles). Everyday I ride, I bike about 2-3 extra miles (depends on how my legs are feeling). Yesterday I jumped from my previous 8 miles to 11 miles.

I'll continue to bike throughout the fall and winter as long as the weather holds ups (don't mind biking in the cold, but rain, snow, sleet, etc is another issue!), and when I can't ride because of weather, I plan on going to the YMCA to do some circuit training. By the end of next summer, I want to be able to do a century. I suspect for the century, I'll to have to buy myself an actual road bike.

Hi East Hill,

There are two reasons for the "On Her Nishiki" line. 1) It's a quote from one of my favorite songs 2) When I was on vacation in May, I rented a Nishiki from a bike shop in Indianapolis for some city transportation so I could ride with my sister. I loved that bike, and it convinced me that I needed to ride again! Alas, I could not find any Nishikis in Denver. So, in the end it's a hats off to one of my favorite songs and the reason I picked up biking again .

Hi Daveyboy,

Yes, we still host Ride the Rockies. This year it was from June 17-23. It's about 422 miles in a 6-7 day trip. It does sound like a lot of fun. Maybe I'll be able to do that in 2009.
